Summary | This course will focus on the continued development of your exploration, understanding and application of Graphic Design studio process, as a critical practice. You will engage with a range of relevant skills within core Graphic Design areas, ranging from print to digital. |
Course description |
The aim of this course is to frame Graphic Design's core functions and sensibilities within a research studio setting. You will use the discipline's processes, techniques and approaches, to respond to a set brief that highlights the core nature and roles of Graphic Design and its wider contexts. You will develop your personal professional practice and critically reflect on your position within the discipline, through visual research, rationalisation and communication. The course will feature an exploration of a range of appropriate design methodologies and strategies for the professional articulation, presentation and
documentation of work.

Additional Information (Assessment) |
Formative: A Pecha Kucha presentation of your work to your peers and lecturers at the mid-point of the course, with verbal feedback.
Summative Assessment:
LO1 - A personal research blog containing all research and development, with a minimum of 20 research posts. (33%)
LO2 and LO3 - A multi-page personal portfolio containing an annotated summary of your research and development journey and a fully resolved body of work resulting from this research and development process. The portfolio should contain a minimum of 20 pages including a reflective statement of 250-500 words, examining your process and outcomes (PDF format). (67%)
Summative portfolio is assessed against all three course Learning Outcomes. Each Learning Outcome is equally weighted, and therefore comprises 33.33% of overall final course grade. |
Feedback |
Formative feedback is regularly communicated throughout the course. This takes a number forms, verbally through weekly group discussion, class crits with peers and specialist practitioners and a mid semester individual 1:1 meetings where work and ideas are discussed with your tutor.
Summative Feedback at the end of the Course you will be given written feedback and summative grades within 15 working days. |
