Course description |
The course will cover how to obtain detailed histories from patients, to ensure that any conditions that could impact on the safe delivery of dental sedation are identified. The use of relevant risk stratification systems to help assess patients appropriately will be evaluated, and how to assess the risk of any potential complications occurring. It will explore how the stage of development of children may influence their management and how the dental procedure may influence the choice of technique.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of those issues which may relate to the suitability of a patient for dental-led conscious sedation
- Deal with complex issues and make informed judgements about the suitability of a patient for dental-led conscious sedation
- Critically evaluate the clinical parameters such as BP and SpO2 when assessing the patient for conscious sedation
- Exercise autonomy and manage complex ethical issues, whilst taking responsibility for their work
