Summary | The language component of German 2 consists of one Applied Grammar Seminar per week in both semesters, one Translation/Text Production Seminar in both semesters, and one Oral Language Practical in both semesters. The literary/cultural component for German 2 consists of selected texts from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries studied in one two-hour Literature/Culture Seminar per week, in both semesters. |
Course description |
The German 2 course consists of two equally weighted sections, one devoted to language acquisition and the other to literary/cultural studies. The language teaching in the second year is designed to fulfil two aims: to consolidate the progress made in the first year, for students from both German 1A and 1B, and to prepare students so that they will be able to take full advantage of the time they will spend abroad. The second year concentrates on consolidating grammar, expanding vocabulary and further developing skills of written and oral self-expression. There will be some learning by heart, (with particular attention paid to strong verbs), but teaching will also concentrate on bridging the gap between theory and practice.
