Russian 'A' level or equivalent
Russian studies 1B is designed for students who already have experience in studying Russian. The course is aimed at students who have attained an 'A' level Russian or equivalent.
If you are not sure if your Russian is of the right standard for 1B, or if it is some years since you studied Russian, you should take a placing test in the first week of semester 1. You will then have the option to move to Russian 1A if it is a more suitable course for you. Any moves between 1B and 1A should take place in the first two weeks of S1.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a sound grasp of everyday Russian vocabulary, grammar and syntax.
- Demonstrate a broad and critical understanding of Russian culture through engagement with a number of important texts, concepts and debates.
- Appraise straightforward spoken and written information about everyday study or work-related topics, identifying both general messages and specific details.
- Communicate with reasonable accuracy on familiar topics both orally and in writing, expressing personal opinions, and comparing and contrasting those of others.
- Develop effective communication, presentation and interaction skills across a range of media; 6. Demonstrate self-reliance, initiative, and the ability to work flexibly with others as part of a team.
