Summary | The Geography dissertation in Sustainable Development, is an extended piece of independent, in-depth scholarship on a sustainable development topic with a clear geographical dimension (for students taking the Geography Pathway). The topic is largely of the students¿ own choosing, but must be approved by the Dissertation convenor and supervisor. The work should engage critically and analytically with the literature in the chosen field. Students will be expected to refine and extend their understanding of relevant concepts and theories introduced in the courses completed in years 1-3 of the degree. Students are further expected to demonstrate competence in a range of primary and secondary sources, and are expected to demonstrate appropriate referencing and bibliographic skills.

Supervisors for these dissertations will need to be found within Geography. The selection of supervisor will be made based on match with topic chosen, and availability of staff.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Undertake sustained, independent work, drawing on one or more of the disciplinary fields in Geography.
- Refine their abilities to engage critically and analytically with the significant literature in their chosen field of their specialist interest.
- Employ relevant knowledge, concepts, theories and analytical approaches from their chosen field to formulate an extended argument.
- Exercise and consolidate their time- and task-management, presentational, and self-motivational skills in the conduct, presentation, and time- and task-planning of their research scheduling.
- Demonstrate attention to the relevant data analysis, referencing, and bibliographic conventions.
