Summary | This is part one of a two-part course. This first part aims to show the breadth of family medicine, exploring the various roles and responsibilities of the family physician within the family medicine team, and also exploring the values and attitudes a doctor as a professional needs to practice good patient centered and ethical family medicine. |

1. Roles and responsibilities of the Family Physician 1; managing illness, continuity and co-ordination of care,
2. Roles and responsibilities of the Family Physician 2: prevention of disease and health advocacy
3. Roles and responsibilities of the Family Physician 3; Maintaining good medical practice, teaching and training and family practice management
4. The Doctor as Professional; values, attitudes, feelings and beliefs 1

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- understand the unique role family physician has in a medical system
- ¿ understand the many different roles and responsibilities and family physician may have within the system they work in
- ¿ reflect on their current roles in their place of work, and examine how some components of this may be strengthened
- ¿ understand the values and attitudes a family physician should have in order to practice good patent centered family medicine
- ¿ reflect on the risk to good patient care posed by poor values and attitudes and to examine those attitudes within themselves
