Summary | The dissertation will involve the planning, execution and development of a significant body of clinical primary health care research to tackle a clinical problem.
Each dissertation project will be prior approved by the student's primary supervisor, and will involve a critical case analysis of a primary healthcare issue using evidence based medicine. Students will be required to incorporate learning from their internship work period including reflective analysis on the practice of Family Medicine for the particular topic.
The dissertation will be presented through a three staged process which will include a conference prepared abstract submission, a research paper outline for submission to a Family Medicine Journal and a reflective analysis of the potential impact of the written piece of work on Family Medicine. |

Learning Outcomes
The dissertation aims to ensure that candidates develop a deeper understanding of research methodology and acquire an understanding of the application of evidence based Family Medicine within an agreed clinical topic area. Students will also gain experience of carrying out research, including:
- Defining own research questions
- Experience of managing own project
- Exploring an area in depth
- Experiencing the process of producing knowledge
- Demonstrating the ability to carry out independent research
