Summary | As a world, we are currently witnessing unprecedented levels of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory disease and these trends look set to continue. The overall aim of this course is to develop students' understanding that these diseases have both local and global determinants; that effective and cost-effective evidence-based strategies for the prevention and management of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) exist and that tackling NCDs requires multi-level and multi-sectoral participation and action. |
Course description |
This is a five week course which will critically examine the changing global burden of NCDs and their risk factors, the complex ways in which globalisation impacts on NCDs, and current global and national policy responses.

- Use appropriate tools to assess the applicability and feasibility of NCD policy options to their chosen context
- Work collaboratively with a group of peers in order to effectively communicate the complexity of NCD causes and prevention to an educated lay audience
- Reflect critically on their experience of working collaboratively with an autonomous group of peers and of communicating complex issues to an educated lay audience in order to develop a personal action plan
