SummaryThe course will cover basics of Turkish language, alphabet, vowel harmony, simple, past and future tenses. Topic-based vocabulary will be provided. Simple dialogue will be introduced.
Course description Turkish 1a aims to teach the structure of the Turkish language through Istanbul A1 course book. During the first semester the syllabus design will be as follows: the alphabet, vowel harmony, days of the week, plural nouns, months, seasons, numbers, colours, telling time, adjectives- comparative and superlative forms of adjectives, progressive tense, past tense, noun-case suffixes, basic vocabulary, pronouns and simple dialogue, greetings and translating from Turkish to English.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. read and write short paragraphs in Turkish
  2. understand the basic features of Turkish grammar.
  3. recognise and use some basic Turkish vocabulary.
  4. exchange greetings, introduce themselves and engage confidently in basic conversations.
  5. translate elementary texts from Turkish into English and vice versa.
