| Summary | This course is the third phase of the Intensive Arabic programme. Following an assessment on arrival students will be placed in a class at an appropriate level at an approved language institute in the Arab world (previously Cairo or Amman) for c. 12 weeks. Classes will focus on the 4 language skills in Modern Standard Arabic. |

Other requirements | Course only available for students enrolled on MSc in Middle Eastern Studies with Arabic or MSc in International Relations of the Middle East with Arabic. Students must go abroad in order to progress to Year 2. |

Learning Outcomes
| Students will improve their Arabic language skills and increase their knowledge of Arab culture and society. The focus will be on Modern Standard Arabic but students will also be encouraged to develop a working knowledge of the relevant colloquial dialect.

| Study Abroad |
Students will be sent to language school in the Arab world to undertake language classes. Centres are re-evaluated each year; previously the schools have been in Jordan and Egypt.
Students will responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements overseas. Information sessions and advice will be provided during the academic year leading up to the study abroad period. Students will also be responsible for immigration compliance, including ensuring valid passports as well as researching and obtaining the correct visa for their study abroad period.
