| Summary | This course provides an immersive learning experience for Arabic language learners at a partner institution in the Middle East between years one and two the MSc in Middle Eastern Studies with Advanced Arabic or MSc in International Relations of the Middle Eastern with Advanced Arabic. |
| Course description |
This course is the third element of the Advanced Arabic courses taken by students at the end of year one of Middle Eastern Studies with Advanced Arabic or International Relations of the Middle Eastern with Advanced Arabic degree programmes. Following an assessment on arrival, students will be placed in a class at an appropriate level at an approved language institute in the Arab world (previously Cairo, Amman or Bir Zeit) for ca. 12 weeks. Classes will focus on the 4 language skills in Modern Standard Arabic.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- improve their Arabic language skills and increase their knowledge of Arab culture and society.
- develop their abilities in the relevant colloquial dialect although the focus will be on Modern Standard Arabic.

| Study Abroad |
Students will be sent to language school in the Arab world to undertake language classes. Centres are re-evaluated each year; previously the schools have been in Jordan and Egypt.
Students will responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements overseas. Information sessions and advice will be provided during the academic year leading up to the study abroad period. Students will also be responsible for immigration compliance, including ensuring valid passports as well as researching and obtaining the correct visa for their study abroad period.
