Summary'Service Integration' as an aspect of 'Quality Improvement' presents a range of issues around organisational development, and the way information use in service development can facilitate or fail to facilitate, organisational learning. Although these issues are well known, the evidence-base for how to manage them in particular contexts, is weak. The course will centre on a consideration of the range of Service/Quality Improvement models, which structure and facilitate the implementation of service change across services and sectors. The principles underpinning these are similar, and all focus on information use. The evidence base for their effectiveness is not robust, but skills in appraising the models and adapting them to specific circumstances appear to be a factor in their success.
This course will help students draw on their own experience to consider how such adaptations can be made in their own service development work.
