| Summary | This course will assist students to develop a critical appraisal of the theoretical approaches in relation to understanding the experiences of people living with both an intellectual disability and dementia. To evaluate the effectiveness of models of care for people with dementia, when applied to people with an intellectual disability within real-world working practice. As well as engaging in an online learning environment including contribution to discussion boards and the development of a case study report and final assignment. |
| Course description |
This course aims to gain a critical understanding of the historical and theoretical context of the experiences of people with an intellectual disability who develop dementia. In addition the appreciation of international research, as well as policy and practice developments of people living with an intellectual disability and dementia.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:

- An analysis of models of care for people with an intellectual disability and dementia.
- An appreciation of the similarities and differences in dementia and dementia care experienced by people with an intellectual disability and by the general population.
- An analysis of models of care for people with an intellectual disability and dementia.
