| Summary | This is a core course for the MSc Dementia: International Experience, Policy and Practice. It is also available as a continuing professional development (CPD) course for students wishing to undertake a standalone format of study.
Teaching is part time and delivered entirely online.
The course gives a critical introduction to theoretical perspectives that underpin dementia care and takes a holistic view of dementia aiming to develop a critical understanding that includes, but goes beyond, a medical approach.
The course aims to develop detailed awareness of theoretical approaches to dementia and a critical understanding of how local and national policy in different countries impacts on people with dementia and their carers. It will also look at the effectiveness of interventions at different stages of dementia. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop a critical understanding of a variety of epistemological and theoretical approaches and interventions relevant to people living with dementia from an international perspective
- Critically evaluate the effectiveness of models of care for people living with dementia
- Develop an international perspective on service delivery for people living with dementia, which can then be translated into 'real-world' care practice
