| Summary | This course introduces students to the theoretical study of phonology with a focus on English. The course is intended for students who have no previous experience of studying phonology or phonetics. Most data will come from three reference dialects: Standard Southern British English, Standard Scottish English and General American English, but data may come from any variety and also from other languages. Concepts relating to phonological description and analysis will be studied in the context of current linguistic theory. |
