Summary | Students express preferences for topics from a selection spanning medical, scientific and non-medical subjects. Most are studies in depth in small groups in a self-directed manner guided by a tutor. The course is diverse in area, content, and approach to study. It will prove to be quite different from the type of task that students have been asked to tackle before in the curriculum, although elements of it will be familiar. The breadth, depth, and lack of prescribed direction of investigation have proved particularly unfamiliar to many undertaking the small group projects. The use of the web in these groups is particularly unusual. Its use for course information such as timetabling and handouts is now commonplace, but in this course websites are also the end product of the project for most students. |
