Sampling and data collection methods will be introduced. An understanding of research governance, ethics and user involvement will be developed.
The course will include:
An introduction to the philosophical and theoretical foundations of knowledge
An introduction to research designs and approaches to develop practice: experimental; evaluation and audit; surveys; grounded theory, ethnography and phenomenology; mixed methods; participatory action research; critical realist.
Ethical dimensions, research governance and user involvement in gathering evidence and ways of evaluating rigour and sources of bias.
The course will adopt a student-centered learning approach with a mix of inputs. These will range from lectures including flipped lectures, research examples, practical research skills sessions and workbooks, class discussions and tutorials.
