Summary | This optional course looks to provide students with the opportunity to consider the current debates and developments in the field of pain as both an experience and, in terms of its management, a priority in health care. Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Examine critically the detailed knowledge from physiology and anatomy underpinning current theories of pain control
- Explore and understand the multi-dimensional aspects of pain control drawing on current research-based theories
- Analyse and reflect on the complexity of the assessment and management of different presentations of pain as an experience.
- Demonstrate a critical awareness of the potential implications for individuals living with pain and the challenges of enabling possible coping mechanisms
- Understand of role of all health care members of the multidisciplinary team in relation to the control of pain in all its various manifestations
