Summary | The Supervised Reading Course (20 credits) enables students to pursue their interest and choose a topic that fits their desire explore a body of literature in more depth. The final submission should demonstrate the individualised learning pathway and the final outcome as it relates to professional practice.
Supported by an academic supervisor, the learner will have the flexibility to set their own route to exploring the literature and to chart progress along the way. By so doing it is anticipated that the learners will maximise the opportunity to be self-directed and negotiate supervision arrangements that fit with their needs.

Course description |
The Supervised Reading Course (20 credits) allows students to select their own topic for self-directed study. The topic will be selected in agreement with the Programme Director and the chosen supervisor to complement but not reproduce the material and approaches covered in one or more of the other courses taken by the student, either by filling a gap in the material so covered, or by pursuing a particular subject or approach in significantly greater depth than on other courses.
The student and supervisor will negotiate supervisory arrangements but a minimum of 3 meetings are expected to facilitate learning.
On completion of the course students:
-Will possess a detailed understanding of a substantial body of literature on a topic relevant to their Master programme.
-Be able to reflect critically on the empirical and theoretical content of that body of literature.
-Relate the literature to topics or approaches covered in other courses which were taken previously.
-Demonstrate a systematic understanding of knowledge and critical awareness of the chosen subject.
-Demonstrate the ability to be a self-directed, problem solving and autonomous learner.
