| Summary | This course will look in depth at resuscitation and the management of medical emergencies. |
| Course description |
This course is designed to ensure that the students have an understanding of the importance of resuscitation and the management of medical emergencies in the dental setting. These issues will need to be dealt with in various settings including when treating patients under local anaesthesia, intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia. Students will be taught how to manage the airway in a compromised patient and will be introduced to the concepts of immediate and advanced life support.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to carry out a rapid and accurate assessment of a sick patient
- Describe the management of a medical emergency in a sick patient
- Immediately recognise when a patient requires CPR
- Deliver CPR with airway adjuncts effectively
- Discuss the concepts of ILS and ALS based on the relevant literature
