Course description |
This course is designed to ensure that the students have wide experience in oral surgical procedures. By the end of CP2 students will be expected to have competently carried out most of the procedures considered to be core competencies including surgical removal of wisdom teeth, implant placement, surgical endodontics and enucleation/ marsupialisation of cyst. Students should be able to confidently discuss issues, with senior clinicians, about the most appropriate approach to the common oral surgical procedures carried out under LA, IVS and GA. Their communication skills and professionalism will be continually assessed during this module.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to carry out core oral surgical procedures with minimal supervision
- Prescribe the most appropriate management strategies for patients requiring IVS or GA for pain and management anxiety for an oral surgical procedure.
- Be fluent with any national or international guidance of relevance to the specialty (e.g. NICE, SDCEP, GDC) and be able to critique the relevant contributory literature
- Carry out a well-devised treatment plan which is evidence-based and arrange follow up as appropriate
