| Summary | This course will build on prior learning, and consolidate learning from the Paediatric Critical Care 1 course. Students will study issues related to organisation and delivery of critical care services on a local regional and national basis. |
| Course description |
The course will develop an understanding of structures involved in the delivery of paediatric critical care services within the hospital, and how these relate to regional and national centres. Students will study critical care transfer, and outreach care and the logistics involved. Students will explore relevant technical issues for the delivery of critical care in a variety of contexts. Within the Course, students will also have the opportunity to study an aspect of paediatric critical care in depth, in which they will develop skills in team working and leadership.

Students will receive regular feedback on their weekly contributions from their online tutor.
Feedback for exercises and assignments will depend on their nature e.g. an MCQ will have immediate feedback via LEARN, together with pointers for further reading; written assignments will be marked by tutors who will provide constructive feedback within the University guidelines on turnaround time wherever possible.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- understand the theoretical framework underpinning current practice in paediatric critical care medicine as it relates to organisation on local regional and national basis (knowledge and understanding)
- analyse the literature to enable developments in knowledge to be implemented in the clinical setting (apply knowledge)
- understand the complex interpersonal relationships, and leadership skills required to practice in a multidisciplinary environment (making judgements)
- present cogent arguements for a chosen line of management based on analysis of the available evidence (communication skills)
- identify learning needs and how to address these, to facilitate their own personal professional development (learning skills)

Medical graduate who has ongoing commitments to the care of ill and/or injured children on a regular basis. Students must have complete the Certificate Year of the Cert/Dip/MSc in Paediatric Emergency Medicine; the Paediatric Medical Emergencies Course GMED11097; and Paediatric Critical Care 1 (code to be advised). It is desirable that the student has a future commitment to paediatric critical care. |
