SummaryThe course allows candidates to design, plan, execute and write-up high-level research based on knowledge and skills acquired in taught course-delivered elements of the programme. In addition, much learning on skills, methods and acquisition of knowledge will occur through undertaking the dissertation research. The dissertation gives candidates an opportunity to undertake novel research under the supervision of a qualified academic member of staff. Additional academic staff and industry or public sector experts may be drawn upon as advisors to support the candidate.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Experience in the formulation and testing of hypotheses or research questions, data collection and analysis
  2. Successful execution of a novel and well-planned independent research project under expert supervision
  3. Ability to write up research findings to a standard publishable in the peer-reviewed literature
  4. Experience in applying theoretical, methodological and technical knowledge acquired in other parts of the programme to a research question(s) and to make a critical analysis of existing evidence bases in the peer and non-peer reviewed literature
