SummaryConsolidation of work in Latin accidence and grammar from Elementary Latin (PG) 1, together with systematic treatment of the syntax of the complex sentence. The focus of this semester will be on the reading of texts.
Course description This course is designed for those who already have a working knowledge of the basics of Latin grammar. It will cover all the common constructions, but the main focus will be on reading short pieces from a variety of prose texts.
Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students)
Pre-requisites It is RECOMMENDED that students have passed Elementary Latin (PG) 1 (PGHC11086)
Co-requisites
Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking Latin 1Hb (LATI10018)
Other requirements Students must have either done PG Latin 1 or have suitable previous experience as determined by the Course Organiser.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. master Latin morphology;
  2. recognise and understand Latin syntactical constructions;
  3. translate extended passages from Latin into English;
  4. analyse and reflect critically upon the Latin language and upon scholarly and advanced conceptual discussions about approaches to the language.
