SummaryAdvanced Issues in Political Theory will enable students to undertake advanced normative analysis of contemporary political topics. Topics will vary by year.

Course description The substantive content of the course will change each year depending on topical issues being covered. For example, it might cover matters of public concern like the ethics of immigration policy, the political and constitutional issues in a debate on EU membership, the ethics of climate change policy, the normative analysis of particular military interventions or human rights crises that arise in other contexts.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate advanced empirically-informed understanding of contemporary debates on the chosen topic from a relevant range of normative perspectives
  2. Demonstrate an advanced critical understanding of the principal Political Theory concepts related to the chosen topic
  3. Conduct advanced analysis of the chosen topic through the application of theories and methods within Political Theory
  4. Communicate through empirically grounded and theoretically informed written work and discussions, their understanding of the chosen topic.
