SummaryThis two week 0-credit course will consist of two seminars of two hours each on 'philosophical skills', especially skills concerning how to construct philosophy papers in particular.
Course description 'Phil Skills' is aimed at giving incoming on campus MSc students a grounding in the skills needed for philosophical reading and essay construction. It will consist of two seminars of two hours. It is mandatory for those students without a background in philosophy. Students will receive feedback relevant to the themes of the course on a 'informative essay' written for one of their further individual MSc courses.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. identify and reconstruct the argument of a philosophy paper
  2. construct a well-formed introduction to a philosophy paper
  3. better think through how to formulate an appropriate thesis for a philosophy paper
  4. work within the word counts of an assignment effectively
  5. use appropriate language for academic philosophical writing
