SummaryThis course will introduce basic concepts of public health, domains of public health practice and encourage exploration of the underpinning values. The course will introduce the multi-disciplinary nature of public health and the kinds of evidence that can be applied to public health problems. The course will consider the breadth of determinants of health and the application of public health approaches in different settings.
Course description This course will introduce basic concepts of public health, domains of public health practice and encourage exploration of the underpinning values. The course will introduce the multi-disciplinary nature of public health and the kinds of evidence that can be applied to public health problems. The course will consider the breadth of determinants of health and the application of public health approaches in different settings. This course will include both didactic lectures and small group exercises. Lectures will introduce basic concepts and include small group exercises for students to explore these in more detail. The course will include a group project that will involve identifying and appraising a routine data source and giving a brief presentation on its uses and potential biases to fellow students.
