Summary | The course will be an introduction to epidemiological concepts framed within the context of conservation medicine. The course will use a problem-solving approach to facilitate learning and practice basic epidemiological concepts. Students will develop an understanding of different epidemiological methodologies and how these relate to the issues facing conservation medicine. Exemplars of how the approaches may be employed to undertake disease research and surveillance in wildlife and how they are used for prediction and risk analyses will be provided as problem based scenarios for students to work through. |
Course description |
A knowledge of epidemiology, pathogenesis, therapies and control measures relating to animal disease and the practical skills to apply that knowledge;
A knowledge of public health including an understanding of how to prevent transmission of disease between animals and man;
Problem solving abilities;
A good professional attitude and a high standard of professional behaviour;
Knowledge and understanding of the relationship between veterinary science, medical science and other biosciences.
