Summary | This course will give students an understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing animal health and welfare globally. The course builds on the Science for Agri-Food Systems courses in year 1 and Animal Systems year 2 course, and is suitable for all students that have satisfactorily completed years 1 and 2 of the programme, or others who have successfully completed year 2 in related (e.g. biological sciences) programmes. |
Course description |
This course will give students an understanding of:
- The development of animal health and welfare concepts.
- Relationships between health, welfare and management.
- Assessing health and welfare.
- Economics of animal health and welfare - animal and population perspective.
- Prevention and control of health and welfare issues.
This course will use case studies and examples of animal health and welfare issues worldwide in all major domesticated species.
