Notes:
Students wishing to pursue qualification towards legal practice in Scotland should note the courses required as indicated in the Degree Programme Table for the LLB Honours (Year 1 and Year 2) and the notes on progression towards legal practice. It cannot be guaranteed that a curriculum enabling progress towards professional qualification will be possible on this programme.

Before selecting any optional courses please ensure that you have met your Personal Tutor.

Please note, students who are retaking a compulsory course, or who have chosen to enrol in a course for professionally qualifying reasons, may have timetable clashes.

Notes:
Students wishing to progress towards legal practice should note that passes in the following courses (totalling 100 credits) are required to qualify as a solicitor in Scotland: LAWS08134 Business Entities, LAWS08132 Public Law and Individual Rights, LAWS08135 Delict, LAWS08141 Evidence (Ordinary), LAWS08131 Commercial Law (Ordinary), LAWS08142 Criminal Law (Ordinary), LAWS08130 Succession and Trust Law, and LAWS08133 Property Law (Ordinary).

Entry into Honours normally requires a pass in all Year 1 and Year 2 courses (240 credits) , and a mark of 50% or above at first attempt in the compulsory German courses. Year 3 comprises at least 30 weeks spent in the relevant country and prescribed courses in Law and German at an approved institution.

All 80 credits of designated optional courses in Year 2 can be drawn from Law Level 8 courses. Students wishing to pursue qualification towards legal practice in Scotland should seek advice from their Personal Tutor to discuss course requirements.

German Year 2 Literature and Culture Courses

Notes:
For entry into Year 3, students should normally have passed all courses (240 credits) in the first two years before the Year 2 resit diet, and have achieved a mark of 50% or above in the required German courses at the first attempt.

Year 3, where permitted, comprises at least 30 weeks of approved residence in the relevant country and prescribed courses in Law and German at an approved institution. The minimum period of residence will be eight consecutive weeks. During sessions when this is not permitted students will be offered an alternative means of engagement.

Students will be expected to do the equivalent of 120 credits. All students who spend their third year abroad must take the compulsory course 'LAWS10214 Advanced Legal Writing (Online)', and also have the option to take 'LAWS10201 Studying Law in Context'.

Notes:
For classification purposes only, Year 4 components will be weighted equally across 160 credits as follows: Language Paper 1 (20 credits), Language Paper 2 (20 credits), Oral (20 credits), Language Course Option (20 credits), Law Dissertation and/or Law Course Options (80 credits). This is to ensure that the final degree award for the LLB Law and German is calculated on an even balance of Law and Language courses.
