Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this course the candidate should be familiar with the concept of neglected diseases and their impact on the population and have a sound understanding of the following:
* the 13 diseases officially classed as neglected and further examples of neglected diseases
* the underlying causes for the neglect of certain diseases
* funding and health system inequalities with regards to different diseases
* the overlap (high risk population groups and spatial clustering) of neglected diseases with each other and with the Big 3 (HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria)
* effects of co-infection on disease burden
* the potential to coordinate disease control programmes to increase efficiency through collaboration
