SummaryThe course covers the archaeology and prehistory of Scotland from the very earliest human settlement in the tenth millennium BC until the end of the Iron Age and the Roman Occupation in the first millennium AD.
Course description The course provides in-depth coverage of the various periods of the archaeology of Scotland from the very earliest human settlement in the tenth millennium BC until the end of the Roman occupation in the first half of the first millennium AD. Practical aspects of the course will introduce students to the study and interpretation of archaeological artefacts, sites and remains using Scottish material relevant to the course.
This academic year, a field trip to archaeological sites and a joint visit to the Museum of Scotland may not be possible in which case online alternatives will be offered.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: ( Archaeology 1A (ARCA08004) AND Archaeology 1B (ARCA08005))

Pre-requisitesVisiting students should usually have at least 1 introductory level Archaeology or cognate subject course at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this) for entry to this course. We will only consider University/College level courses.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the archaeology of Scotland and of aspects of the practice of archaeology;
  2. Assimilate a variety of sources and to work with archaeological material and to assess them and formulate critical opinions on them;
  3. Research, structure and complete written and practical work of a specified length and format, and within a specified time;
  4. Make informed contributions to class discussion and activities;
  5. Organise their own learning, manage their workload, and work to a timetable.
