SummaryA course for students with no previous knowledge of Chinese, designed to introduce complete beginners to the four basic skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in Chinese.

Students with previous knowledge of Chinese language are not permitted and may be asked to withdraw from the course.

This course runs in semester 1 and semester 2.

On successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to take Foundation Chinese Language 2 (ASST07025).
Course description This course is suitable for complete beginners and aims to equip students with a very basic grounding in Chinese.

This course is not suitable for students with previous knowledge of Chinese. This course is not available to native or near-native speakers of Chinese. If in doubt, contact the Course Organiser.

Students who pass the course will have the option of taking Foundation Chinese Language 2 (ASST07025) in Semester 2.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. use basic grammatical structures in spoken and written Chinese.
  2. employ a basic range of vocabulary and phrases on topics related to everyday life, travel and work.
  3. compose very simple descriptive text in Chinese.
  4. reflect upon and convey cross-cultural difference.
