SummaryA short course in which students demonstrate how their Business School option course can be related to China. This takes the form of a short presentation and a written assignment, usually a short essay or book review. An ability to present the material in lay terms is emphasized.
Course description This course can only be taken alongside an option from the Business School or other 15-credit option.

In the first meeting, usually in week 1, students are introduced to the course. In the second meeting, students give short presentations (5-10 minutes) on how their Business course option can be related to China.

At the end of the course, students submit a written assignment in English (1,000 words). This would usually take the form of a short essay or book review related to their Business course option.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. position and reframe knowledge gained from another field in a Chinese studies.
  2. autonomously select relevant readings and develop an overview of the field in Chinese studies.
  3. synthesize and present a technical topic in lay terms.

Barry J. Naughton. The Chinese Economy: Transitions and Growth. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press, 2007.
This reading is in addition to the readings associated with the 15-credit course option and any material required for the presentation and written assignment.
