|Summary||Textiles has a wide range of applications within art and design. Through these 2 projects students will be encouraged to apply materials understanding to a range of challenges in a variety of contexts appropriate to the field, e.g. textiles for the body, textiles for interior spaces, and textiles as materials for product.
These practice based projects, will encourage students to apply their understanding of the discipline whilst also extending creative possibilities through challenging materials and techniques. All project briefs are underpinned by encouraging on-going relevant research and exploration within the field. Students are also urged to explore their critical thinking in tandem with practical experimentation. Outcomes for the briefs are anticipated to be underpinned by the demonstration of a clear understanding of their intended context and application.
This course develops technical competences in the practice of textile design applied to a range of specific contexts. The course encourages students to expand their practical and technical knowledge of the discipline and associated techniques, applying this understanding to the suite of design projects.
Through 2 projects students are encouraged to formulate personal responses, applying skills and knowledge in research skills and practical textiles techniques to streamline projects in specific settings.
Opportunities for possible collaborative group work further embeds personal skills and knowledge, highlighting individual interests and strengths within the textile discipline.
Students are asked to demonstrate their ability in taking projects from initiation through to professionally presented resolutions. Possible examples of projects within this course are ;-
Fashion textiles. In the product of textiles for fashion contexts
Commercial textiles. Student briefs aligned with industry, help students meet the demands of specific companies, applying knowledge and understanding of textiles in a commercial setting.
In all projects students are given the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to research, select and apply appropriate approaches to textiles aligned directly to the set briefs and presented in an appropriate professional setting.

||Other requirements|| If this course is Core to your programme, you will automatically be enrolled. For all other School of Design and ECA students, the course is open on a first come, first served basis until the course is full. It is recommended that students would require a basic competence of textile technique and methods for example, sketchbook work and drawing, preparation of artwork for screen print and sound photoshop skills. See the following courses for further guidance of experience equivalent to :- Textiles 1A, Textiles 1B, Textiles 2A. Please consult the Course Organiser if you wish to enrol.
|Additional Costs|| Art materials and equipment lists will be supplied in advance. Materials costs which will vary depending on the students individual method of production but could be approximated at £40 for this course.

||Formative feedback will be given on an on-going basis and more formal formative feedback will be given within the second half of the semester allowing students to respond in their summative submission.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Respond to textile project briefs, gathering a range of approaches to research and formulating ideas aligned to the briefs.
- Apply relevant knowledge and research to develop focused creative ideas and subsequent resolutions, aligned to the requirements outlined in project briefs.
- Use recognized methods to communicate appropriate outcomes to the project briefs in a clear and professional manner.
