Course description A compulsory course for all Italian 4 students that bears 10 CREDITS and aims to improve their written competence in Italian by strengthening fluency, grasp of idioms and stylistic awareness. The course has one session per week and consists of two elements:
Essay: argumentative and creative writing in Italian.
Prose: translation from English into Italian.
CLASS ACTIVITIES include structure and vocabulary-building exercises; textual and stylistic analysis of passages in Italian.
HOME ASSIGNMENTS include writing or translating e-mails, dialogues, compositions /fiction, summaries or report of articles, reviews and commentaries.

Feedback Students will receive collective oral feedback (explanation and correction of common mistakes) on written work in class.
Individual written feedback will be provided in detail on coursework assignments and tests. Tutors will be happy to discuss results and feedback during office hours or on student¿s request, by appointment.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate an overall proficient grasp of the Italian language and cultural refences equivalent to an advanced C1 CEFR level.
  2. (Essay) Write accurate and fluent texts in Italian, showing awareness of different styles, registers and idioms, and the ability to organise and construct clear and cohesive arguments.
  3. (Prose) Demonstrate a nuanced understanding of a range of English styles and registers, and the ability to convey them in accurate and faithful Italian.
  4. Work effectively and independently or as part of a team, showing commitment , flexibility, and initiative.
