Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Produce critical textual analysis that demonstrates an understanding of genre, varieties of form, and literary critical terms.
- Critically evaluate how writers use literary forms for different effects by paying attention to rhetorical detail and providing textual evidence.
- Identify and explicate some of the methods used by literary or cultural critics to examine formal issues and to link a work's form to its content.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how literary texts are shaped by historical developments, and how they in turn participate in and reflect on historical change.
- Make use of a range of university study skills, including essay writing skills and responding to feedback.
