SummaryThe dissertation course is designed to further develop the student's academic skills and ability to use scientific theory either in a research study or applied to public health practice. The dissertation project is designed to further develop the student's understanding of the processes and planning involved in undertaking research of a particular public health issue. This will develop their scientific and reflective written communication skills.
Course description For this component, students will:

- write a dissertation in which the student demonstrates critical analysis, academic knowledge of the particular area, capacity to document and manage the process of data gathering, information management and succinct writing.
- write a reflective account of the project

A detailed proposal must be submitted and is assessed as part of the dissertation. Students will be encouraged to develop a dissertation project that is useful and bears significant relation to their current or proposed working life.

Learning Outcomes
The dissertation will require a high level of commitment and application from the candidate and provides a valuable exercise in the writing and presentation of information to a standard that engages appropriately with academic conventions in relation to style, tone, structuring and referencing. Supervisors will provide support on research methodologies and other skills required for successful completion of the written reflective element.
