| Summary | This 10-credit course will allow students to develop a deeper level of knowledge and understanding in the speciality areas of diabetes and endocrinology, through presentation of a number of example cases covering the science underpinning the disease, diagnosis, and effective management strategies. |
| Course description |
Individual speciality tutors will use clinical case studies to broaden knowledge in diseases of the pituitary, adrenal, and thyroid glands, as well as covering reproductive endocrinology, calcium regulation, and the diabetes epidemic. They will guide students to appropriate seminal publications in their speciality and encourage them to present and review recent journal article in a group setting (online journal club). On- publication review forms will also be used to assess of literature evaluation skills. Historically important, controversial, topical and novel papers will be discussed.
Students writing and presentation skills will be enhanced through formative assessments. This will normally take the form of an e-poster presentation. Development of skills in giving feedback will also be encouraged through the use of peer-assessment.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the relevant basic scientific principles underlying common endocrine conditions
- Apply the relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes in assessing and managing patients presenting with diabetes and other endocrine conditions
- Demonstrate a critical awareness of current global health issues in relation to the diabetes epidemic
- Synthesise and communicate information effectively online with peers, more senior colleagues and specialists
- Apply critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis to issues which are informed by developments at the forefront of endocrine medicine
