| Summary | Turkish 1B for PG Credit will provide students with further skills to communicate in Turkish. It will cover some other tenses: second form of the past tense, the future and the perfect tense. Reading and speaking will be included to practice these tenses and new vocabulary will be introduced. The course will concentrate on the main linguistic skills i.e. reading, writing, speaking and listening. Specific attention will be given to the grammatical structures of Turkish. |
| Course description |
Turkish 1B for PG Credit is an elementary-level course which aims to teach the structure of the Turkish language through Istanbul A2 course book. During the second semester the syllabus design will be as follows: the reported past and the aorist tenses, the imperative and optative moods, noun & adjective making suffixes, punctuation, the ability suffix, -dIr suffix, direct speech and subordinating verbs and phrases in Turkish, more vocabulary, pronouns and dialogues, and translating from Turkish to English.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Recognise the derived forms of the Turkish verb.
- Conjugate Turkish verbs in the past, present and future.
- Use a wider Turkish lexicon, including some basic vocabulary from the fields of culture, history, politics and literature.
- Speak and write about their daily lives, past experiences and future plans.
- Translate lower intermediate&/elementary level texts from Turkish into English and vice versa.
