SummaryThis course aims to develop knowledge and understanding of practice management skills required in professional practice, including work and file management, professional conduct, communication with clients and colleagues and the regulatory framework in which solicitors operate. Students will develop skills in interviewing, negotiation and presentation. Students will be required to participate fully in the Free Legal Advice Centre.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Mandatory outcomes: (a) Appreciate the commercial environment of legal practice, including the market for legal services and the business models legal businesses use; (b) Understand the key features of alternative business structures; (c) Demonstrate ability to manage personal workload and to manage effectively a number of concurrent client matters; (d) Demonstrate an awareness of issues of equality, diversity and inclusion that may arise within the practice environment with references to the protected characteristics; (e) Can manage time and risk capably in legal transactions/matters; (f) Comply with all quality standards, risk management, and other policies and processes in place; use business systems and resources appropriately; (g) Demonstrate an understanding of how technology is changing the legal profession.
