|Summary||This course will introduce statistical concepts and techniques commonly used in biomedical and epidemiological applications.The course is primarily intended to MSc students in Statistics with Data Science and Statistics and Operational Research but it is also available to fourth and fifth year undergraduate students enrolled in the degree programmes offered by the School of Mathematics.
In this course we will study a variety of concepts and techniques used in biomedical and epidemiological research. The R statistical software will be extensively used. Topics to be covered may include:
1)Measures of disease occurrence and of disease-exposure association
3)Estimation and inference for measures of association
4)Causal inference, confounding, and interaction
5)Unconditional and conditional logistic regression
6)Analysis of survival data

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Recognise the role of statistics in biomedical and epidemiological research, understand different ways to measure health outcomes and suggest appropriate study designs.
- Be able to implement and interpret results from statistical techniques used in biomedical and epidemiological studies.
- Be able to use the R statistical software to analyse data derived from biomedical and epidemiological studies.
