SummaryThe course provides opportunities to discuss and critically analyse high-profile contemporary issues in the Medical Sciences. It consists of a series of lectures, seminars and tutorials that aim to address key areas of the medical sciences by focussing on the scientific basis of important and recent medical advances while placing them in the context of their value for improving health and healthcare.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate a breadth and depth of knowledge in key, selected areas of Medical Science
  2. Discuss and critically evaluate the scientific and ethical challenges that confront Medical Science research in the 21st century
  3. Apply a broad range of skills and experiences, including interpersonal skills, communication and critical judgement, that will provide a solid foundation for subsequent careers
  4. Demonstrate advanced development and application of literature-searching skills, and an ability to understand and evaluate original scientific articles
  5. Critically interpret and draw together all relevant information that leads to the formulation of a novel research question related to your dissertation project
