SummaryAutomation is becoming pervasive in most industrial sectors, therefore the new generation of manufacturing engineers must be conversant in this topic. Given the growing spread of industrial robots in the factory, the course aims at providing essential skills and knowledge for students looking for potential employment in manufacturing automation. Emphasis in particular will be placed on industrial robot applications which mainly revolve around the analysis of robot manipulators, their components, their design and control.
Course description Topics Covered:

- Industrial robot components and applications
- Rigid body motions: translations, rotation
- Forward kinematics, inverse kinematics
- Differential kinematics, Jacobians
- Feedback and feedforward Control
- Trajectory Generation
- Rigid Body Dynamics

It is not a pre-requisite but students are recommended to have previously attended classes in alegbra and dynamics.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Gain familiarity with industrial robotics, its applications and possible niche sectors;
  2. Discuss the various elements that make an industrial robot system;
  3. Understand and model kinematics of multi-degree-of-freedom manipulators
  4. Program and control an industrial robot system that performs a specific task relevant to industrial automation.
