This course introduces students to a range of topics in normative ethics. These may include theories of the good, the relationship between what is right and what is good, utilitarian ethics, Kantian ethics, virtue ethics, and moral responsibility.
The specific topics vary from year to year.

Students will be assessed by a 3000 word essay (85%) and successful participation in on-line activities associated with the course (15%). How the participation component will be assessed will be made clear to the students at the start of the course. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- discuss a number of topics in normative ethics.
- engage critically in contemporary debates in normative ethics.
- formulate questions and positions of relevance in normative ethics and demonstrate these skills in writing a short critical paper on a current theme in normative ethics.
