| Course description |
This core course will include:
1. Observation of multiple forms of clinical teaching.
2. Practical experience of clinical teaching and student assessment.
3. Practical experience of preparing and giving a clinical teaching session.
4. Reflection on their own teaching.
5. Feedback from others on their teaching.
6. Attendance at a selection of VMED workshops.
7. The possibility of enrolling for the Edinburgh Teaching Award
In this year 2 course, students will receive further training in the fundamentals of clinical teaching and assessment. They will continue to observe multiple forms of clinical teaching by experienced teaching staff, as well as undertaking clinical teaching and assessment themselves, informally reviewed by senior clinicians.
Additionally, students will prepare and give a teaching session, which will be formally assessed. Students will be encouraged and expected to undertake autonomous background subject reading, and include their findings in their planned teaching sessions, critiques and reflective summary. Students will be expected to attend at least 1 workshop (agreed on by their supervisor) from VMED.
Depending on availability, and with supervisor approval students will have the opportunity to enrol for the Edinburgh Teaching Award, working towards their Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
