Notes:
Please note that students with ESRC funding will be required to take the following ESRC accredited research training courses:

Qualitative Methodologies in Psychological Research (20 credits)
Multivariate Statistics and Methodology Using R (20 credits)
Univariate Statistics and Methodology Using R (20 credits)
Linguistics Research Skills (20 credits)

Additionally, students on this pathway are asked to audit SPS Research Design (20 credits) to supplement the Linguistic Research Skills course and ensure that they mix with students in the UoE ESRC Core Cohort, thus standardising their experience.

NOTE: This programme is available to study part-time (PT). PT students must complete the same requirements as full-time over two academic years. The dissertation must be completed during Year 2, after progression to the dissertation stage has been confirmed by the Board of Examiners. All course choices are subject to the approval of the supervisor. Students are advised that course availability may vary across years subject to staffing arrangements.

MSc Linguistics Phonology

Select exactly 10 credits of the following courses
Notes:
Phonetics and Laboratory Phonology is only suitable for students with previous experience of phonology and acoustic phonetics. If you wish to be considered for a place on this course, you will have to pass a placement test that will evaluate your current level of knowledge in these areas.
AND

MSc Ling Syntax Semantics

Select between 10 and 20 credits of the following courses
Notes:
If you have not previously taken a course on Syntax, Introduction to Syntax is compulsory. Introduction to Semantics and Pragmatics is strongly recommended for those with no / little previous experience of this area. You should discuss this with the Programme Director in your semester 1 meeting.
AND

MSc Linguistics Option

Select exactly 10 credits of the following courses
Notes:
Please select either LASC11171 Statistics and Quantitative Methods which is running in Semester 1, or LASC11172 Statistics and Quantitative Methods which is running in Semester 2
AND

Level 11 courses in Schedules I and O

Select between 50 and 90 credits from Level 11 courses in Schedules I and O
Notes:
At the Programme Director's discretion, students will be exempted from Introduction to Phonology, Introduction to Syntax, and Introduction to Language Research if they demonstrate appropriate prior learning.

Students are able to choose from further optional courses available with the approval of the Programme Director. Students should consult the current academic year's course information on DRPS.
