Students must pass all the 80 credits of core courses with a grade of 50% or above in order to progress to the dissertation stage.
Where a student exits after year 1 and is eligible for a PG Certificate, that award would be ratified and published at the Year 1 June Progression Board of Examiners.
Students who fail the progression rule for dissertation at the end of year 1, can be offered the certificate (if they qualify) or can choose to continue to the taught element in Year 2 block 3 to try to qualify for diploma. A first award board will take place at the end of Year 2 block 3 (to decide on the award of diplomas) for the students who have not qualified for progression to dissertation at the end of year 1.
The final awarding Board of Examiners for the MSc award will be in October. Where a student has a taught average below 50% after all 120 credits are completed, they will still progress to dissertation as the progression hurdle is solely based on the 80 credits of courses in Year 1.
