Summary | The dissertation gives students the opportunity to carry out independent research on a single topic relating to East Asian Studies for an extended period, during which students are expected to show independence in managing their research, writing, and liaison with their supervisor.
The dissertation will be 15,000 words in length (excluding bibliography). |
Course description |
The dissertation is an independent research project, based on self-directed, original research and engagement with the secondary literature.
Students will be assigned a supervisor and will be expected to liaise regularly with their supervisor and submit material for comment at agreed times. Supervisors will not read and comment on full drafts of the dissertation, however they will provide feedback and advice on the subject of the dissertation, its organisation and structure, and on source material and bibliography. Supervisors may also comment on dissertation outlines, chapter plans and timetables, and individual chapters of the dissertation.

Feedback on dissertation proposal as part of semester 1 core course for MSc East Asian Studies programme.
