SummaryThis course will explore formal science education in schools from the perspective of a science communicator.
Course description This course will explore formal science education and science teaching pedagogy from the perspective of a science communicator. It will include an introduction to science curricula both national and international, theories of how children learn science, misconceptions in science, working with schools and teachers, managing groups and behaviour, enhancing the school science curriculum and the interaction of formal and informal science learning.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Confidence to work professionally and effectively with schools.
  2. A critical understanding of science teaching pedagogy and educational research and its role in the enhancement of science communication practice.
  3. An ability to demonstrate critical thinking about the interplay between formal and informal science learning and to be able to apply learning in practice - based formative and summative work.
